The Director General of the Census and Statistics Department Mrs. Suranjana Vidyarathne said that preliminary data of Sri Lanka’s Housing and Population Census held recently will be furnished to President Mahinda Rajapaksa before the end of this month.
The Director General said the census was a complete success and it was held throughout the country after three decades. One of the objectives of this census was to provide information to government’s development activities on district, provincial and grama niladhari division levels.
The second report of the census, she said, will be released within the next two months.
Sri Lanka carried out a census covering 18 districts only in 2001 due to the war in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. (niz)
