Government schools throughout the country which were closed for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year opened for the second term today.

As there is a growing dengue threat in the country due to the prevailing rainy atmosphere throughout the country, on the request of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education has instructed all Principals of Schools to clean the school premises without leaving room for breeding mosquitoes in the school premises.  A survey carried out by the Ministry of Health has found that density of mosquitoes have increased in the school premises during the school holiday period.  The Ministry of Education has told the Principals that they will be held responsible if school children were found affected by Dengue and if the school premises were found unclean.

The Ministry of Health is to carry out a further inspection survey of school premises after about one week’s time. (niz)
