Reason behind the Successes of South Korea and Sri Lanka

President Mahinda Rajapakse has emphasized that South Korea became a developed country and Sri Lanka vanquished the scourge of terrorism from the Sri Lankan soil because both countries acted with the same determination that ‘We Can Do It’.

The President made these comments addressing a group of Sri Lankans employed in South Korea and university students at the Hayat Hotel in Seoul/  The President told them that at present the country is being developed with the same determination.

The President told the gathering that he was impressed when the South Korean President said that Sri Lankan youth employed in South Korea are carrying out their duties diligently and honestly. He said the Sri Lankan nation as well as he personally is happy and proud about this comment.

The President also explained the challenges he faced in the 90’s while opening an employment avenue for Sri Lankans in South Korea. He said his attempts have borne fruits and at present 23,000 Sri Lankan youth are employed in South Korea.

He further said that the country’s economy gets a massive boost from their contributions and on the day they return to Sri Lanka they will be able to reap many benefits of development. The President also thanked them for the remittances being sent for strengthening the development activities. (niz)
