Sri Lanka’s largest ever May Day parade was held in Colombo yesterday with the participation of about 500,000 people marching in the United Peoples Freedom Alliance parade.
The parade started from the Campbell Park around 1.00 p.m. and it took more that 5 hours to pass through one point. Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s trade unions, farmers associations, youth organizations, electoral organizations, dominated the parade. The electoral organizations were headed by Ministers, Parliamentarians and other political leaders of the areas.
The working masses and the others participated in the parade expressed solidarity with the President and the government and denounced the local and international attempts being made to destabilize the country and topple the government and install a puppet regime consisting stooges of the imperialists.
Separate parades of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, the National Freedom Front and the Sri Lanka Mahajana Pakshaya started from various other locations and headed by the party leaders also joined the main parade. (niz)
