Storm damages several areas in many districts

Severe property damage has been caused due to the storm that hit several areas of the country on Monday evening. 681 houses have been damaged and 234 houses partially damaged.
The Disaster Management Centre informed several villages in the North Central, Uva, East and Central provinces have been affected by the storm. It said that due to fall of trees several roads have been obstructed and electricity has been disconnected.
The storm that hit Welikanda , Divulagala , Lankapura and several other areas of the Polonnaruwa district has fully damaged 540 houses and 133 houses have been partially damaged. The DMC said that provision of relief to affected families are being carried out by the Welikanda Divisional Secretariat office and Grama Niladari and Samurdhi Development Officers of the area.
In the Batticaloa district several houses have been damaged in the Ooththucheni and Wadamune Grama Niladari Division areas. 80 families have been temporarily housed in the Ooththucheni Tamil School.
In the Uva Province about 40 houses have been damaged in the Medagama area in Bibile. Houses in the Senapathiya, Aiwela, Nannapurawa, Kotabowa , Arakmedilla, Bibile and Kohukumbura areas in the Medagama Divisional Secretariat Division have been damaged. The Economic Development Ministry together with the Disaster Management Ministry has started providing relief facilities. (niz)
