SLFP launches a 6 months reform programme

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party will launch a six months long island wide party re-organization programme starting from next Saturday.
The General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena told a press conference in Colombo yesterday, that the first programme in the series would be held in the Anuradhapura District on the 12th and 13th of this month.
He said that all programmes of the government, initiated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa including election campaigns have always commenced from Anuradhapura after worshiping at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi. The SLFP re-organization would therefore also commence from Anuradhapura.
Elaborating on the nature of the programme, the Minister said that it will cover all districts with the participation of SLFP parliamentarians, provincial councilors, local government members and electoral organizers. He said that Party leader President Mahinda Rajapaksa will lead the party reorganization and the cabinet ministers will lead the district level activities.
Under the programme house to house visits will be made by SLFP seniors and members along with a leaflet distribution campaign to create awareness about the current political situation in the country and the SLFP's policies. The programme, targetting the next provincial council elections due in 2013, include recruitment of new members, reorganization and election of party branch offices, and strengthening of electoral and district organizations.
Speaking further the Minister said that the United National Party originated by the late Prime Minister D.S.Senanayake has been destroyed under the leadership of Ranil Wickremasinghe and the JVP has got split into 3 groups. However under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapakse the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has risen to its strongest position within its 60 years of history, and the golden era of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is the Mahinda Rajapakse era.(niz)
