Ministry of Health has announced a National dengue eradication month from the 25th of this month to 25th of July. The president’s special task force for eradication of dengue has taken this decision after a discussion held yesterday.
Officials from several Ministries, public and private institutions and non-governmental organizations participated in this discussion and explored ways and means of eradicating mosquito breeding areas and mustering people’s participating in the dengue eradication programme.
Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena commenting on yesterday’s meeting said that only 23 out of 420 public institutes have setup dengue eradication committees in their relevant places. The Minister requested the support of all institutes and the public to conduct dengue eradication programmes.
Meanwhile, the Health Department informed that in the first six months of this year over 15,400 dengue patients have been identified which is a dramatic increase compared to the previous year. The Department urged the people to immediately consult doctors in government hospitals when they get the signs of dengue. (niz).
