3,000 graduates are to be recruited to teach IT, English, Science and Maths. The Examinations Department will hold a competitive examination to recruit these graduates on September 24 at 90 examination centers in the Colombo district.
Around 14,500 graduates are taking the exam to fill the 3,000 teacher vacancies in the provincial council and national schools.
Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardene addressing a public meeting in Colombo yesterday said that this is the first time in the history of Sri Lanka, graduates have been recruited as IT Teachers, and 1,000 graduates will be recruited as IT teachers. He said that as promised in the Mahinda Chinthana to make information technology accessible to everyone in Sri Lanka, the country had been able to see a vast improvement in IT literacy.
Minister Gunawardena said that IT literacy in the country was only 5 percent in Sri Lanka and it has now reached 33 percent and it will be increased to 75 percent within the next four years.(niz).
