The Supreme Court ordered today to the University Grants Commission to annul the Z-Score calculation for the 2011 GCE (A/L) examination and to re-calculate separately, for the new and old syllabuses. The judgment was delivered by Supreme Court bench chaired by Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake
Issuing the order, the Supreme Court noted that the calculation of the Z-Score at last year's G.C.E. Advanced Level has been erroneous.
The Supreme Court today delivered the judgment on the Fundamental Rights Violation application filed by a group of students and the Teachers’ Union against the formulation of the Z-Score for the 2011 GCE (A/L) examination.
The petitioners challenged the pooling method used for calculating the Z-score for the examination conduced under the new and old syllabuses. They claimed that the two syllabuses should be considered separate in calculating the Z-score, on the basis of which students are admitted to universities.
