Empowering Women Serving in the Armed Forces

beauty culture

In keeping with the government's vision of empowering women, under the leadership and guidance of Secretary Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr Gotabaya Rajapakse, the office of the Chief of Defence Staff in association with Seri Naturals (Pvt) Limited will conduct a foundation course in beauty culture for the women of Sri Lanka's army, Navy and Air Force who are retiring from active service. This will empower them with the necessary skills and knowledge to set up their own business in beauty care after retirement.

The workshop which will be launched today (25) will be conducted by renowned hair style and makeup artist Romesh Atapattu of Capello Salons and will take place thrice a week for a period of one month. At the end of the programme a graduation ceremony will be held where all participants who successfully complete the workshop will be awarded with a certificate of competence and completion.

These trained entrepreneurs will also be an asset to local economies of their villages as they would be providing a means of employment to other young women as well. This programme marks another important milestone in the Vocational Training Program launched in 2010 under the guidance of Secretary Defence to provide vocational training for all members of the armed forces who retire from active duty .
