PC Polls 2012 Nominations accepted from July 12-19

Acceptance of nominations for the Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils will commence on 12th July 2012 and will end at 12 noon on 19th July 2012 at centers located in the relevant District Secretariats, said the Elections Department issuing a Media Release. Deposts will be accepted until 12 noon on 18 July, the day prior to the last date of acceptance of nominations.

According to the Media Release if no nominations are received it will be necessary to announce another nomination period and if onlyu one nomination is received and it is accepted, the Political Party/Independent Group that submitted the nomination paper will be declared elected uncontested to the Provincial Counci. In the event there is a contest due to acceptance of more than one nominations, the elections will be held on a Saturday falling on 1st, 8th or 15th September 2012.

The exact date of election will be announced after examining nomination papers received during the period of nominations, the Media Release further states.

The notice of dissolution of the Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council were dissolved by Gazette Notification Nos.1764/06, 1764/07, 1764/08 respectively dated 27.06.2012.
