Sangakkara beats Gavaskar’s record

Kumar Sangakkara who remained 149 not out at close of play yesterday on the 4th day of the 2nd Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan has emerged as the highest run scorer against Pakistan surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s record.
Sangakkara has also become the fourth batsman to score 2000 runs at Sinhalese Sports Club.
Sangakkara has played 29 innings off 20 matches in this ground while his career best 287 also came on this ground. Now, after surpassing Gavaskar’s record, SSC would have become very special for Sangakkara.
He has played 15 matches and 28 innings against Pakistan and has secured over 2100 runs at an average of 87.58 with a highest score of 230. He has recorded eight centuries and eight half centuries against Pakistan. (niz)
