India’s Rural Dev. Minister to arrive in SL

The Indian daily “The Hindu” said that the Indian Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh will arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow on a two day visit.  It said that the Minister is making this visit despite he is currently being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and had been advised rest by his doctors

 

The Indian daily said that during his visit the Indian Minister will hold discussions with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, and External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris. The last Indian Cabinet Minister who visited Sri Lanka was External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna.


The Hindu also said that the Indian Minister will share the Indian experience with the flagship Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme at the Laxman Kadiragamar Institute for International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS), in Colombo, and the Institute will also sign an agreement with the Research and Information System for Developing Countries, New Delhi, for further cooperation.


Mr. Ramesh is also scheduled to deliver a lecture at the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies on the “Changing Role of India in South Asia.”(niz)
