SLFP takes tough action against errant members

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party will not support any of the party members who violate election regulations during the Provincial Council election campaign. The party will not protect or safeguard any such member.
This was announced by the senior vice president of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Irrigation and Water Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, yesterday.
Addressing a media conference held at the Mahaweli Centre yesterday, Minister de Silva said the party would take stern action against such persons. He said that the party General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena has issued a final announcement to all former members in the Sabaragamuwa, North Central and Eastern Provincial Councils to hand over government assets used by them when they were in office.
He said the SLFP led United People’s Freedom Alliance had no reservations over its imminent victory at the upcoming Provincial Council election. The Minister said that the party has drawn up comprehensive plans to effectively face the elections and the party‘s aim is to achieve a democratic victory by effectively facing the baseless allegations leveled by the forces against the government.
The Minister also said that the party executive committee chaired by President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to discuss this plan extensively and ensure the government’s victory with the support of party members and the leaders at grass root level.
Meanwhile, in another move initiated by the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Minister Maithripala Sirisena and sanctioned by the General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance Minister Susil Premajayantha the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has cancelled the party membership and posts with immediate effect of all local government body representatives who are accused of rape or crime.
Accordingly the memberships of the Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman W.P. Sampath Chandrapushpa, Tangalle Municipal Council Member B.L. Anjana Kusum Ruwan, Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman S.H. Sunil and Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Deputy Chairman Munidasa Gamage have been cancelled.(niz).
