Many welfare programmes have been launched by the Navy on the direction of the Commander for the welfare of the naval personnel who were disabled in action during the humanitarian operation, which was conducted to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the Motherland.
As part of this welfare project, Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake met the disabled naval personnel and their families last year to look into their welfare and discuss the issues faced by them. The donation, worth over 3 million rupees, is an outcome of the discussions held. In addition, many other welfare facilities have been provided to the disabled naval personnel, which include providing crutches and spectacles, conducting medical and eye clinics, assistance to start self employment ventures, interest-free loan facilities, steps to solve their salary anomalies, school instruments for the children and financial assistance to build and renovate houses.
