St.Anne's Church Talawila celebrated 250th Anniversary

St. Anne’s Church, Talawila marked its 250th anniversary this year. Specxial religious observances were held in view of the 250th anniversary of St.Anne's Church Talawila on Sunday (05).
The main holy mass was officiated by the Archbishop of Colombo His Emminence Malcom Cardinal Ranjith.
This year too a large number of devotees attended the celebrations.
The lighthouse constructed at the premises of the St. Anne’s Church in Thalawila to mark its 250th anniversary too was declared open by the Bishop of Chilaw Rev.Fr. Valance Mendis on Sunday. Thereafter unveiling the statue of the Holy Mother Bishop Rev.Fr.Valance Mendis said ’’This will be a symbol of unity of the people. St. Anne is the protector of this area. For centuries people used to come here and then set out to sea. Keeping that history and belief in mind we constructed this lighthouse.’’
The lighthouse was constructed as a relief to the fishing community.
