The Elections Secretariat said that all arrangements have been made to conduct a smooth election in the three provinces of North Central, Sabaragamuwa and the Eastern as scheduled on September 8th.
The Additional Commissioner of Elections R.M.A. Rathnayake said that postal voting will be held on 27th and 28th of this month. He said that all preliminary arrangements for the voting have been made and security at the polling centres will be strengthened. Special arrangement to observe the polling has also been made, he said.
The Additional Commissioner informed that printing of polling cards has been completed and it will be handed over to the Postal Department on the 17th of this month and the delivery is expected to be completed by the 30th of this month. He said that 26th Sunday of this month has been made as a special day for the delivery of the polling cards.
Meanwhile, a special office headed by a retired senior administrative officer, to accept complaints about the election has been established at the Elections Secretariat. Complaints on the elections can also be made over the phone to this office by dialing 0112- 877 620 or number 0112-877 621. In addition to this office, election complaint units have also been established in all the 7 districts of the three provinces at the district secretary’s office. Rathnayake said that about 60 complaints have been received so far and these complaints are being investigated into. (niz)
