President inspects progress of Katunayake Expressway

President Mahinda Rajapakse inspected the construction work of the Colombo-Katunayaka Express Way on Thursday. The 290 Million U.S.Dollar project which was started in 2009 is to be completed this year.

 

The Expressway is 25.1 kilometers in length and 25.4 meters width and will have 4 lanes and is expected to take only 20 minutes to reach Colombo.  The expressway is expected to provide a rapid boost for industrial expansion at the Katunayake Industrial Zone and to the tourist industry.

 

There will be 5 interchanges on this expressway at New Kelani Bridge, Peliyagoda, Kerawalapitiya , Ja-Ela and Katunayake, The flyover at Kerawelapitiya is 480 meters long.

 

Ministers Felix Perera, and Johnston Fernando, Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawala, the Chief of the Presidential Staff Mr. Gamini Senarath, and several others associated with the President in this inspection tour.  (niz)
