UPFA makes a landslide victory in all the 3 provinces

People in all the three provinces which went to polls yesterday have expressed their solidarity with the President and the Government despite various malicious propaganda carried out about the government politicizing the drought, education and educational sectors.  People in the Eastern Province who were subjected to a barrage of vicious divisionary propaganda on ethnic and religious based politics have also stood above these divisionary politcs.

 

The United People's Freedom Alliance has secured 63 seats in all the three provinces against 29 seats obtained by its main rival the United National Party.

 

The highest number of seats obtained by the UPFA, 28 seats were from the Sabaragamua  Province.  The United National Party obtained only 14 seats in this province. The UPFA ally Ceylon Workers Congress of Minister Arumugam Thondaman secured 2 seats in this province.

 

In the North Central Province,. the UPFA obtained 19 seats while the UNP secured only 11 seats.  The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna obtained only one seat from the Anuradhapura district in this Province.  This is the only seat obtained by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna in this election.

 

In the Easten Provincee, the UPFA won 14 seats while its main rival in the province the Ilangai Tamil Arasu Katchi  won 11 seats, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress 7 seats and the UPFA ally Nsational Freedom Front of Minister Wimal Weerawansa won 1 seat from the Trincomalee District. (niz)
