South Eastern Naval Command declared open

Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake declared open the Navy’s 07th Command in the South-eastern Naval Area at its headquarters in Panama on Thursday (20th). Commander of the newly-established South-eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Calixtus Jayakody, senior naval officers attached to NHQ and naval personnel of the area were also present on the occasion.
The new naval command provides in-depth security to the area and will assist the uplift of infrastructure development and welfare of the people. Naval presence of the new command will be a deterrent to smuggling activities and illegal fishing along the South-eastern coast and the adjoining seas.
The Navy Commander reviewed the infrastructure development activities being carried out in the South-eastern Naval Area and the measures implemented for the welfare of the naval personnel deployed under the new naval command. He declared open the Senior Sailors’ Mess, General Mess and the cabanas at Naval Deployment Panama. He also laid the foundation stone for the Naval Institute and the Navy House to be constructed in the new naval area.
