Youth Affairs Ministry to train tourist manpower

Deputy Economic Development Minister of Sri Lanka Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that the Vocational Training Authority under the Youth Affairs and Skills Development Ministry would create programmes to help prepare the youth to play their role in the newly-invigorated tourist industry and in fields affiliated to it.
He said that apart from the Sri Lanka Hotel School, the Vocational Training Authority will establish a chain of hotel schools to offer training to youth in the hotel industry and the tourist trade.
The Deputy Minister said that the tourism industry is expected to boost the country's economy in the next few years, and it would generate hundreds of thousands of employment opportunities to the youth in the country.
Sri Lanka is aiming for 2.5 million tourist arrivals by 2016 and four million by 2020. (niz)
