Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa will inform Parliament today of the Supreme Court verdict on the Divi Neguma Act. Minister Basil Rajapaksa is also scheduled to enlighten Parliament today on how to proceed with future activities relating to the Divi Neguma Act. All provincial councils have approved the Act.
Meanwhile, the employees of several institutions such as the Sri Lanka Samurdhi Authority, Southern Development Authority, Upcountry Rural Rehabilitation Authority, Department of the Samurdhi Commissioner General and the Up Country Rural Rehabilitation Department have planned to stage a rally in support of the Act to be held in front of the Parliament today.
Addressing a media conference in Colombo yesterday, the Secretary to the Association of All Ceylon Samurdhi Officers and Agri Research Officers S.A.D. Jagath Kumara said that Samurdhi beneficiaries, Samurdhi officers as well as number of trade unions and the public will take part in this protest campaign. He accused the opposition for delaying the approval of the draft bill, which will provide benefits to more than 2.8 million people in the country. He blamed the opposition for misleading the public regarding the draft bill to achieve their petty political objectives despite the bill being beneficial to the poor people of this country. (niz)
