Pirith Chanting Ceremonies throughout the country

Pinkam Ceremonies are being held throughout the country in connection with President Mahinda Rajapakse’s Birth Anniversary and the 7th Anniversary of his ascension to the Presidency. These Pinkam ceremonies, aimed at blessing the President, the government, the people and the country will be held until the 20th of this month.
In addition to this a Weekly Pirith Chanting ceremony in the main Temples in each district commenced on the 12th of this month and will be held until the 19th with Sangika Danas on the 20th.
Given below are details of some of the Pinkam ceremonies.
The Pinkam Ceremony of Sri Valukarama Vihara in Thalaimannar was organized by the Chief Incumbent of the Viharaya Venerable Walallawita Wimalasara Thero. The ven. Thero said that this is the first time that a pirith chanting ceremony is being held in this viharaya after 1947.
The weekly pirith chanting ceremony at the Kiri Vehera Raja Maha Vihara in Katharagama was started on Monday with performing of religious rites by the Chief Incumbent of the Kirivehera Venerable Dr. Soratha Thera.
A weekly pinkam ceremony has also been started at the historical Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya in Ratnapura. It is being held under the anusasana of the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Padasthana Venerable Bengamuwe Dhamma Dinna Thero.
The Colombo District pinkam ceremony is being held at the Ganewatte Purana Raja Maha Viharaya in Kaduwela. The pirith chanting was carried out by Prof. Venerable Kumburugamuwe Vajira Thero and Vatinapaha Somananda Thero.
The main pinkam ceremony of the Gampaha District was started at the Vidyawansha Piriven Vihara in Bandarawaththa, Gampaha.
The Kegalle District Pinkama of the weekly pinkam series started on the 12th at the historical Kota Vehera Raja Maha Viharaya in Dedigama.
A pirith chanting ceremony was also started on Monday at the historical Madu Kanda Sri Dalada Viharaya in Vavuniya. The Chief Incumbent of the Viharaya Venerable Muwa Atagama Ananda Thero said that this is the first time that this kind of a pirith chanting is being held at this Viharaya.(niz)
