Probe on Chief Justice postponed to Dec 4

parliament of Sri lankaThe proceedings of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) under Article 107 of the Constitution to hear the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dr Shirani Bandaranayake was put off for December 4.

 

The PSC appointed by  parliament under its Standing orders met on Friday for the first time under its chairman Minister Anura Priydarshan Yapa.


It is also reported that the Chief Justice has been granted one week to make written submissions when she cme before it with her  legal consels.

 

PSC members are Vijitha Herath, R Sampanthan, John Amarathunga, Lakshman Kiriella, Ministers Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Susil Premajayantha, Wimal Weerawansa, Rajitha Senaratne, Dilan Perera and Nimal Siripala de Silva and Deputy Minister Neomal Perera.

 

President’s Counsel Nalin Ladduwahetty, Attorneys Saliya Peiris, Sugath Caldera and Kandaiah Neelakandan accompanied the Chief Justice. The PSC proceedings lasted for around one and a half hours.
