The Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena launched the state function of distributing school uniforms for the next year was launched today at the Royal College in Polonnaruwa.
According to the Ministry sources already uniform materials amounting to 6.9 million kits have been distributed. The majority of the clothes required were obtained locally and the balance was imported from China. The total expenditure amounts to Rs. 1,750 million.
The Ministry said that another set of uniforms and a pair of shoes as proposed in the budget by the President is to be distributed in the middle of next year.
Meanwhile, the state function for distribution of textbooks for the next year will be held on Thursday at the Dharmaraja Vidyalaya in Kandy. The government has spent Rs. 2,600 million to print 38.5 million text books.(niz)
