Teach the children the glory and the grandeur of the history - President

Children should be taught on the glory and grandeur of the history and they should be enlightened about the national heroes who dedicated for the nation and religion instead of making them followers of cartoon heroes.

This was stated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa participating at a function to unveil the pinnacle of the new Dagoba of the Kalatuwawa Sri Anandarama Viharaya in Eheliyagoda on MOnday (25).

 

 

The President emphasised that a future generation that respects the people of other religions, other nations and the elders and with virtuous characters should be developed. He said that if this was not done the massive development work being carried out at present will become useless.

 

Speaking about Education, the President said that the government has taken action to provide the facilities enjoyed by Colombo schools to schools in the villages as well. Due to these situations students from rural schools are now obtaining excellent results from their examinations.

 

He said that the people in the villages have also been provided with roads, drinking water, communication facilities and other infrastructure requirements. The Northern and Eastern Provinces have also been developed speedily.

 

The President said that the fruits of development should be enjoyed by the people in the villages and for this purpose the peoples' representatives should dedicate themselves to transform these benefits to the villages. .

 

Speaking further the President said the time has come to end differences that stood in the way towards closer ethnic and religious harmony. He said students are compelled to learn in Muslim, Tamil and Sinhala schools separately till they are 22 years, and after that they are told to live in harmony with other communities. He said that this should be taught to the students at the early ages.

 

President said the Northern province has seen massive development since the end of the conflict. He said the government opened a fully fledged hospital complex at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital where there are 10 surgical theatres in a single floor, and this is the second largest hospital in the country.   

 

Ministers Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Vasudeva Nanayakkara also spoke at this function.(niz)
