People of Matara District warmly welcomed and felicitated Minister of
Investment Promotion Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene at a special Bodhi
pooja held at the premises of the historic Matara Bodhiya.
The Minister was escorted to the function in a procession by a large
crowd and the Bodhi Pooja was held to invoke blessings on him. The
Mahanayake of the Rohana Chapter Rev. Gombaddala Nandarama Thero and
Rev. Godagama Chulalankara Nayaka Thero conducted the Bodhi pooja.
Speaking at the function the Minister thanked the voters of the Matara
district to reposing trust in him and said that without the firm
commitment and determination of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, we would
not have been able to end the war which prevailed in our country for
nearly 30 years covering the periods of five Presidents.
He said that the President has appointed him to this portfolio with
great expectations and assured that he will definitely uphold the
trust the President has placed in him. Several members of the Southern
Provincial Council and the Matara Municipal Council also addressed the
