'Eagles Lagoon View' Banquet Hall facing the Negombo lagoon in Katunayake t was declared open by President, Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday on the invitation of the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal H.D Abeywickrama. The opening also coincided with events to mark the SLAF’s 62nd anniversary.
This Banquet hall which encompasses a total area of 23,000 sq feet comprises a 9,000 sq feet hall, a bridal dressing room, a studio, four dual occupancy rooms and two large changing rooms. In addition, the complex boasts of a wide verandah and a large landscaped garden which rolls down to the Negombo lagoon. The Banquet Hall enables service personnel as well as general public to hold weddings and other functions at a fraction of the cost of hotels which offer similar facilities.
Ministers Felix Perera, Priyankara Guneratne, Deputy Minister Sarath Guneratne, Sudarshani Fernandopulle MP, Defence and Urban Development Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Air Force Commander Air Marshal H D Abeywickrama, Army Commander Lt Gen Jagath Jayasuriya, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, IGP N K Ilangakoon and Chief of Presidential Staff Gamini Senarath,the Chairperson of the Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs Neelika Abeywickrama were among others present at the opening ceremony.
