A Japanese delegation comprising of representatives from the cosmetics industry and researchers met President Mahinda Rajapaksa said at Temple Trees yesterday (April 10) morning. The delegation is in Sri Lanka as a result of discussions between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Japanese MP Arai Hiroyuki during President's visit to Japan.
During the discussion, President Rajapaksa spoke to the delegation about the problem Sri Lanka is facing with regard to patent rights of various plants and herbs and requested assistance in reacquiring those patent rights.
Kobayashi told the President that they hope to develop Ayurveda and beauty culture sectors and exp[ort Sri Lankan products to other countries in the future. He also said that They are planning to setup a new research institute to conduct Ayurveda and beauty culture experitments.
A seven-member Japanese delegation headed by Shoichi Kobayashi, the President and CEO of Albion, a global luxury cosmetics manufacturer is in Sri Lanka to explore the possibility of establishing a research center in the country to conduct Ayurveda and beauty cultural experiments. The delegation comprises Tokyo Agriculture University Lecturer Prof.Watanade Toshihiro and several others in the fields of Ayurveda, agriculture and beauty culture in Japan..
