Batticaloa district "Divineguma" Progress Review meeting was held under the patronage of Douglas Devananda, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development, at Batticaloa district, secretariat recently.
Mrs.Chasles, the Government Agent, Batticaloa district, at the meeting placed before the .Minister a detailed description of the strategies adopted towards the development of ailing and newly commenced Small and Medium Scale Industries in the administrative limits of the district. In the course of presentation of facts to the Minister, she said that out of the applications received, subseqment to the "Divineguma" industrial Exhibition, 427 applicants were selected and given training in their fields of choice. However, it was dishearteing to observe that some without paying altention to what was expected of them had even sold the tool-kits presented to them after undergoing traing , she added.
The Minister inquiring about the training to be imparted to the would be industrialists from the officials of the institutions assigned for the propose, insisted that the training needed to be finalised before the end of August 2013, and everyone so trained to be given a tool-kit. He also instructed the relevant officials to make arrangements for bank credit to the prospective industrialists. Reviewing and monitoring process of the assisted industrialists was also of imperative importance, pointed out the Minister.
Sivagnasothy, the Ministry Secretary speaking at the occasion said that the "Divineguma" programme launched by his ministry together with five other line Ministries was being successfully implemented island-wide and hoped that it was so in Batticaloa district as well.
Gamage, the deputy director in charge of "Divineguma" programme in the Ministry and several other Ministry officials also participated at this meeting.
