Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid homage to the historical Sittamgallena Raja Maha Vihara in Warapitiya, Hambantota on Friday (18) morning.. During his visit, the President also looked into the preparations that are underway for the Esala Maha Randoli Perahera that will commence today (19).
The Perahera will parade the streets for the forty sixth time and the organizers expect around two million people to participate in all religious activities during the seven days.
The President thereafter called on the Chief incumbent of the historical Sittamgallena Raja Maha Viharaya, Venerable Agalabada Piyasiri Thera and later engaged in religious observances.
President's coordinating Secretary and Basnayaka Nilame of the Vihara Kithsiri Ganaganath Abeygunawardena was also present.
