Construction of Jaffna new prison in progress

Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Development Chandrasiri Gajadheera said that construction work of the new Prison Complex in Jaffna which was started by him recently is progressing as scheduled.
The 530 Million rupees Project will replace the old Jaffna prison and will provide more facilities and space for inmates.
The Minister said the Government has focused attention to re-integrate inmates with society by subjecting them to a process of rehabilitation. The Government has been able to re-integrate over 12 thousand former LTTE cadres with the society at present. He said that only 700 former LTTE cadres are in detention camps by now, and they will also be re-integrated with the society soon.
The Minister also said that the Government has allocated Rs. 400 Million in the 2012 Budget to rehabilitate prison inmates.(niz)
