During their visit, they met all decision makers of the project in Sri Lanka and were even able to brief President Mahinda Rajapaksa about the progress of the project. "This was a great honour for us," Prof. Wolf Dieter Gogoll and Hartmut Schulz write, thanking the Ambassador for its support.

The PICU-project was founded in 2005 after the devastating Tsunami in the Indian Ocean to facilitate the reconstruction of the medical treatment of children in Sri Lanka. Since then, the project has done valuable support for the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, with the successful inauguration of the intermediate care unit of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Sri Lanka as a recent milestone. The PICU-project is supported by the Lions Club Hannover, the Medizinische Hochschule and many companies from the Hanover area.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Berlin, Sarath Kongahage, has been repeatedly travelling to Hanover to meet Prof. Wolf Dieter Gogoll and Hartmut Schulz to support the noble efforts of the PICU-project.
