Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L.Peiris has explained the government’s position to the Diplomatic Corps in Colombo about the events that led to the impeachment of Chief Justice Dr Shirani Bandaranayaka, and has told them that the government will not protect wrong doers and impede the administration of justice.

The government has expressed condolences and deepest sympathies on the imposition of death penalty on the Sri Lankan child Rizana Nafeek in Saudi Arabia. Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa told the parliament yesterday that the president, the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and various organizations made every effort to save the life of this child. However, as per the law of Saudi Arabia she had been beheaded on Wednesday (09) afternoon.

During an official visit to the state of Chhattisgarh, High Commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam called on the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dr Raman Singh, at Mahanandi Bhawan, the new Secretariat building of the new capital, Naya Raipur, recently.
