Pix 01China_Leading_Travel_Agents_meets_Minister_BasilSri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) together with Malaysian Airlines organized a Familiarization Tour for 14 Leading Travel Agents from China to promote Sri Lanka as a popular tourist destination. China travel agents met Basil Rajapakse, Minister of Economic Development and had prospective discussions in developing Chinese inbound tourism market.

UN closes its Dossier on Children and Armed Conflict in Sri Lanka

images 4_copy_copyThe Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict adopted the “Draft Conclusions on the situation of children and armed conflict in Sri Lanka” on December 19, 2012, thereby closing the dossier on Sri Lanka in the Security Council. Prior to adopting the Draft Conclusions, the Working Group has considered the report of the Secretary- General on Children and Armed Conflict in Sri Lanka, and its recommendations in accordance with Security Council resolutions 1612 (2005) and 1882 (2009). The Mission had engaged a range of entities over the months on this issue.

images 3_copyThe Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania established formal diplomatic relations on 21st December. Dr. Palitha Kohona, the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, signed the Joint Communiqué on behalf of Sri Lanka, while Ahmed Ould Teguedi, the Permanent Representative of Mauritania to the United Nations, singed on behalf of Mauritania.

Sri Lanka's biggest Football training complex in Jaffna

FootballThe largest fully fledged football training complex and stadium in Sri Lanka is being constructed in Kaithady, Jaffna with financial assistance from West German Republic and World Football Federation, at a cost of Rs. 50 million. Work on the building complex has now been completed, only the preparation of the playground remains to be done. This football training complex and the stadium is as a result of a request made to the West German Government by Douglas Devananda, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development.
