Swapan Dasgupta is a senior Indian journalist. At various points in his career, he has held senior editorial posts at The Statesman, The Daily Telegraph, The Times of India, The Indian Express and India Today. He was one of the six member Indian team led by Rajya Sabha member Ravi Shankar Prasad who visited Sri Lanka recently.

Douglas Devananda, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development, participating as the Chief Guest at the ceremony held at the Kopay National Education Institute on Friday (07) to mark the awarding of appointments to 201 graduates, said that plans are on the pipeline to take education in Sri Lanka to the highest level in the world, under the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapakse through his “Mahindodaya” programme where 1000 selected schools island-wide were being developed to be fully fledged educational institutes, and work on many had already been completed, added the Minister.

Minister of External Affairs, Prof. G.L. Peiris concluded a two day official visit to the Republic of Slovenia on Monday (10).
The Minister met with several Slovenian dignitaries, including his counterpart Karl Erjavec. During the discussions, the two Ministers acknowledged the cordial political relations that existed between the two countries and agreed to further realize the potential for economic and trade relations between Sri Lanka and Slovenia. Minister Peiris emphasized that the ongoing visit by a delegation of prominent business leaders from Sri Lanka to Slovenia would serve to match complementary and mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities for both countries.
