    October 25, 2014

A two and a half year-old girl became the first case of Ebola confirmed in Mali, reported Prensa Latina quoting the Bamako Ministry of Health officials on Friday (25).

According to the source, the little girl -who was in Guinea- was tansferred this Wednesday to a hospital and on Thursday she tested positive for the hemorrhagic fever virus, with high fatality rates.

The girl, whose father is Guinean and died as a consequence of the disease, was brought to this country by her family and remains isolated in the hospital of Fousseyni Daou, in Kayes, a city about 500 kilometers west of the capital.

Mali is another state of West Africa which has a very poor Health System.

Today, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are the countries most affected by the epidemic, while infection is still increasing.
Previously there have also been Ebola patients in Nigeria and Senegal, but in both countries the outbreak could be stopped due to fast-acting. Therefore, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared both countries disease-free.

WHO registered nine thousand 936 cases of Ebola, mostly in West Africa, and four thousand 877 patients died. (KH)
