Nadal, who is a nine-time winner of the Roland Garros crown, a tournament held every year in Paris, was presented with the medal by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.

He thanked the distinction, adding it was a real honor and a great pleasure to receive the medal.

"This city has known me for many years now. It is the most important city in my career. Roland Garros is the tournament that has launched my career", he said.

Nadal, who is Paris to participate in the 2015 edition of the Roland Garros tournament, told Prensa Latina he feels happy and prepared.
