cabinet1.    Ranavlru Seva Authority Act to be amended

On the proposal made by the President as the Minister of Defence and Urban Development, the Cabinet decided to amend paragraphs (b), (c) and (d) of Sub Section (2)(1) of the Ranavlru Seva Authority Act No 54 of 1999  to include the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy and the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Air Force respectively, in its Board of Management.

laxman yapa1.Establishment of branches of State Banks at Warakapola in a single building –

 

  • Warakapola Town Development Project is being implemented by the Urban Development Authority. UDA has acquired 1.6643 Ha of land in Warakapola Town for the implementation of Warakapola Town Development Project.
  • The President in his capacity as the Minister of Defence and Urban Development has proposed to construct a multi-storied building by the Urban Development Authority to house branches of the People's Bank, Bank of Ceylon and the National Savings Bank.
  • Three blocks of lands 40P in extent each have been identified in the aforesaid acquired land to allocate to the People’s Bank, Bank of Ceylon and National Savings Bank respectively.
  • Accordingly the Cabinet has granted approval to allocate said blocks of lands to the above mentioned three State Banks on 30 years lease basis for the construction of their branch offices.

laksman-yapa1.Rs 145 m for the construction of Mahaweli Maha Seya of Kotmale


  • On a proposal made by Prime Minister Mr. D.M. Jayaratne, , the Cabinet decided to grant an allocation of Rs.145 million for the construction of the Mahaweli Maha Seya commencing from 2013
  • Mahaweli Seya was only two feet shorter than the Ruwanweli Mahaseya and the construction of Mahaweli Seya was begun on 20th March 1983 according to a concept of late minister Gamini Dissanayake

  • On a proposal made by Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathna the Cabinet of Ministers decided to declare Monday the May 07,2012 as a Public Holiday
  • The Vesak Full Moon Poya Day and the day following the Vesak day this year fall on Saturday the 05th and Sunday the 06, May respectively. May 07 Monday has already been declared as a Bank holiday

laxman yapa1.Task of maintaining rest areas in the Southern Expressway to be vested in a Govt owned company

  • On proposal made by President, as the Minister of Ports and Highways, the Cabinet decided vest the task of development, operation and maintenance of rest areas on the Southern Expressway with Sri Lanka Insurance Resorts & SPAS Private Limited which is a fully owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Limited on a 99 year lease.
  • The rest area in the country’s first E-01 expressway is located at Welipenna on the 44th Km. from Kottawa.

laksman-yapa1. Rs 90 M for Development of Small and Medium Scale Poultry Farming

  • On a proposal made by Mr Arumugan Thondarnan, Minister of Livestock and Rural Community Development, the Cabinet decided to allocate Rs 90 Million to provide self employment assistance to small and medium scale poultry farmers in order to make the industry self sufficient in 2016.
  • The contribution by the poultry sector for the development of livestock sector is around 70 percent and the industry has around 70,000 poultry farmers.
  • At present an average of 10,000 MT of chicken meat and 100 mn of eggs are produced. The monthly and per capita availability is 6kg
  • The target for year 2016 to be self sufficient in the industry is the production of 18,000 MT of chicken meat and 280 mn of eggs per month
  • In order to achieve this target it was decided that this programme should be implemented in collaboration with the 'Divineguma' Programme launched by the Ministry of Economic Development to provide the following facilities along with 50 percent capital investment grant
  • o Introduce self-employment opportunities and establish 4,500 new small scale poultry farms;
  • o Establish 75 Mini Hatcheries;
  • o Establish 100 Mini Processing Units;
  • o Expand cold storage facilities;
  • o Introduce 100 Mobile Sales Units; and,
  • o Provide training facilities on poultry farming and disease
  • o Control, to poultry farmers and officers.
