The Captain of the National Women's team Ms. Shashikala Siriwardene has been selected to represent the Rest of the World who will play against the Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord's main ground, Sri Lanka Cricket announced.

 

There has never been an M.C.C. Women vs. Rest of the World Women match at Lord's, neither has a Rest of the World women's team ever taken the field anywhere in the World. The Match that will be played on the 19th of May 2014 to celebrate the bicentenary of the present ground will be an unique occasion.

 

Shashikala Siriwardene has been selected by MCC in association with the ICC Women's Committee.

A Regional ICC Panel Umpire workshop is currently being held in Sri Lanka.

 

This programme is conducted by Simon Taufel - ICC Umpire Performance & Training Manager who has been an ICC Elite Panel umpire for several years.

 

International Umpires from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are taking part in this training programme at the R.Premadasa Stadium.

At the Press Conference held on April 09, 2014, at the Bandaranaike International Airport to celebrate the National team’s victory during the ICC World T20 2014 Championship, National Cricketer Mahela Jayawardena stated that the Hony. Secretary and CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket had directly engaged with the media through their own channels criticizing Mr. Jayawardena’s supposed decision to retire from the Twenty/20 format of the game.
