Sri Lanka beat Chinese Taipei team by 36 to 8 in Sri Lanka’s first encounter in the HSBC Asian 5 Nations Division I championships Rugby Tournament played in Manila yesterday.
This 5 nation rugby tournament is considered as Asia’s road to the 2015 World Cup in England.
Sri Lanka and the Philippines cleared early hurdles with bonus point wins to top the table after round one on six points each. Philippines and Singapore engaged in a high-scoring showdown with Philippines defeating Singapore by 37-20.
The Sri Lankan team is led by the captain of the Sri Lanka Navy Rugby team Yoshitha Rajapaksa. Sri Lanka will face Singapore on the 18th and the Philippines on the 21st of this month.(niz)
