Sri Lanka lost the 1st ODI to Pakistan by 6 wickets

Sri Lanka lost the first One Day International in the 5 ODI series played in the Pallekele International Stadium by six wickets.

 

Winning the toss Sri Lanka elected to bat but all the frontline batsmen crumbled for single digit scores.  The home team lost five wickets for 41 runs.  Lahiru Thirimanne was the highest scorer with 42 not out.  Chandimal and Mathews were dismissed without any score.  Sri Lanka was all out for 135 runs of which extras amounted to 31 runs.

 

Due to rain the match was restricted to 42 overs.  In return Pakistan reached the target for the loss of 4 wickets in 34.1 overs.

 

The next ODI will be played in the same venue tormorrow.

 

Upon completion of the 5 ODI series, both teams will play a 3 Test series, the first of which will be started on 22nd June and will be played at the Galle International Stadium. (niz)
