Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed the former Australian right-hand opening batsman Geoff Marsh as the new national head coach of the Sri Lanka cricket team. He will begin a two-year stint next week and fill the vacancy created by Trevor Bayliss, who left following the World Cup.
Marsh, 52, coached Australia from 1997-2000 and Zimbabwe for three years from 2001-04. His son Shaun Marsh is a left-hand top-order specialist in the current Australian team.
Geoff Marsh has played 50 Test matches and over 100 One Day Internationals for Australia as an opening batsman. As a coach he was in charge when Australia won the 1999 Cricket World Cup in England. (niz)
