Murali Harmony Cup 2012 Begins in Jaffna

Murali Harmony Cup 2012 tournament organized by the Muttiah Muralitharan Foundation got underway on Saturday (08) at St. Patrick’s College grounds with participation of school teams from Jaffna and different parts of the island.
Jaffna school combined team, Vavuniya-Mannar school combined team, Kandy Trinity College team and Thissamaharama Debarawewa Maha Vidyalaya team playing under the “C” group of the tournament took part in the matches.
Famous national cricketers Lasith Malilnga, Anjelo Mathews, Nuwan Kulasekara and Dinesh Chandimal graced the inauguration ceremony attended by a large crowd of cricket fans and officials in Jaffna.
Other matches of the tournament are being played in Kilinochchi, Mankulam, Vavuniya and Oddusudan. Twelve school teams and eight women’s clubs meet each other at the above places simultaneous to Jaffna matches.
Women’s teams comprise Army, Air Force and civil sports clubs. Final matches will be played at Oddusudan on the 12th.
The tournament organized to improve the sports skills of local players and to enhance facilities for cricket at schools with limited resources was held for three days.
Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe on Tuesday (09) met the organizers at the ground and conveyed his best wishes to competing teams. Prior to the matches, Headquarters SF-J, acting as the overall coordinator of the event, employed its troops and machineries to make necessary improvements and refurbishing of the ground.
