SLBC felicitates Cricket Commentators

The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation felicitated yesterday (06) those who contributed to present commentaries on the recent twenty 20 international cricket tournament.
A function in this connection was held at the Ananda Samarakoon studio, Thursday afternoon. The Chief Guest and the reputed Sinhala Cricket Commentator Palitha Perera addressing the function reminded the services rendered by the SLBC to take cricket to the villages. He said that this service helped village cricketers such as Sanath Jayasuriya and several others to come to international levels in cricket, and become admired globally by the cricket fans. He also commended the SLBC for broadcasting commentaries of the twenty20 international tournament in the Tamil language as well.
Speaking at the function the Chairman of the SLBC Hudson Samarasinghe said that the SLBC will play a leading role in taking cricket to the villages in the future as well.
The announcers who contributed for more than 25 years in rendering cricket commentaries in the national radio, including Obri Kuruppu and Rohan De Wijerathne received felicitation souvenirs.
The SLBC's women cricket team that has won the Championship of the "Asi Disi Cricket tournament’ organized by the Ministry of Mass Media and Information continuously for 3 years was also felicitated at this function. The function was organized by the Employees Welfare Association of the SLBC.(niz)
