Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Woodler, stated that 2025 marked the highest drug seizures and arrests of drug traffickers in recent history, reflecting the success of the national anti-drug operation.
Speaking at a media briefing held today (22) at the Government Information Department, he said intensified operations launched under the leadership of the President and the direct supervision of the IGP led to the seizure of over 23,692 kilograms of heroin, cannabis, cocaine, hashish and ice in 2025, nearly double the amount seized in 2024.
He further revealed that heroin seizures tripled, cannabis seizures significantly increased, and 21 major drug traffickers were arrested over the past two years, while red notices have been issued for 95 criminals hiding overseas, with plans underway to bring them back to Sri Lanka.
