Agreement Signed to Resume Vehicle Number Plate Printing

The printing of vehicle number plates, which had been inactive since last year, will be reactivated and all backlogged number plates will be issued expeditiously, according to the Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Senior Professor Kapila C. Perera.

He made these remarks while attending an event yesterday (10) where a new agreement was signed with a company to resume the printing of number plates.

Accordingly, the agreement was signed yesterday morning between Senior Professor Kapila C. Perera, Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Kamal Amarasinghe, Director General of the Department of Motor Vehicles, and South Asian Technology Company.

The printing of vehicle number plates had been halted for about 10 months, resulting in a significant backlog. The Secretary further stated that the company that entered into the agreement with the Department of Motor Vehicles will increase the number of printing machines to 10 in order to expedite the printing process.

Senior officials of the Department of Motor Vehicles and a group of senior officials from South Asian Technology Company also participated in the event held at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Narahenpita.
