The Export Development Board (EDB) recently held a special meeting with industry stakeholders to address the ongoing shortage of coconut fibre, which is increasing production costs and affecting export operations.
Despite these challenges, Sri Lanka's coconut coir and fibre product exports reached USD 294 million in 2025, recording a 22.5% growth compared to the previous year.
The discussions focused on improving raw material availability, strengthening the fibre supply chain, and introducing measures to support exporters in meeting international market demands. The EDB reaffirmed its commitment to working with industry stakeholders to safeguard and strengthen this important export sector.
