The Lagalla new Drinking Water Project, constructed at a cost of Rs. 5 billion to provide clean drinking water to around 24,500 people in 6,800 families in the Lagalla Divisional Secretariat Division of the Matale District, is scheduled to be vested with the public today (12).
Project Director Engineer Ranjana Amarasinghe said the project was implemented to meet the drinking water needs of Lagalla New Town and surrounding areas, where people displaced by the construction of the Moragahakanda–Kalu Ganga Reservoir were resettled.
Although a water supply project for the new town was initiated in 2016, construction could not be completed due to the prevailing circumstances in the country. The project was later expedited with the intervention of the present government, with an investment of Rs. 5 billion.
With the completion of the project, around 6,800 families in the Lagalla Divisional Secretariat Division will gain access to clean drinking water, directly benefiting approximately 24,500 people.
