Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunatilaka recently conducted an inspection tour of the Port of Trincomalee to review its operations, infrastructure and future development plans.
The visit began at China Bay Airport, where the Minister, together with Airport Manager Air Vice Marshal W.P. Perera, inspected facilities and discussed future development requirements. The Minister said the Government plans to further develop the airport to support tourism.
The Minister also inspected several port facilities, including the Ceylon Jetty, Old Jetty, Town Jetty, 1947 Jetty and Manko Jetty, to assess their current condition and identify infrastructure improvement needs.
During a meeting with senior officials of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the progress of the Trincomalee Port was reviewed. Officials reported that the port recorded a net profit of Rs. 1,129 million in 2025, while earning Rs. 958 million during the first six months of 2026.
The Minister later inspected operations at the Ashroff Jetty and attended a special discussion at the Trincomalee District Secretariat, where stakeholders discussed land-related issues involving the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and surrounding communities.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra, Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Ministry Secretary W.W.S. Mangala, Members of Parliament, local representatives and senior officials also participated in the visit.
